A tv movie about a Father & has 3 children getting shipwrecked on a freezing island?

Their boat get flooded in really bad freezing weather and I think they have a dinghy that they get to the nearby deserted Island. They have no food or water and after a few days the Dad and the eldest boy set out in the dinghy to get to a nearby Island to try get help. The two girls are left there alone.The weather is appalling and I think it is winter time near Xmas. I also think it is set in Canada somewhere. The Father does manage to get help but he thinks that his two girls will be dead as it is a few days before him and the rescuers get to them but they are alive. I also think it is based on a true story. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks :)
